My name is Barbara Aguilar, and I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner. My background as a psychiatric nurse for over 23 years includes substance abuse, depression, adolescent psychiatry, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, geriatrics, and general adult psychiatry. I am a huge advocate for mental health, and throughout my career has been my passion. I have also served as a clinical instructor for Auburn University for several years. I have been published by the American Psychiatric Nursing Association. Awards include Sensory Reduction project at University of Alabama at Birmingham, presentations for American Psychiatric Nursing Association, Vizient Clinical Connections Summit Presentations, Presentation Poster for Magnet Conference in Orlando Florida. Our mental health is at the center of our wellness. It is our outmost priority. My goal is to educate and promote optimal wellbeing. I believe that the journey to great mental health is a multifaceted journey that requires great communication between provider and patient. Graduated from Samford University with my associate in nursing, the University of Alabama with my bachelor’s in nursing, Master of Nursing Education from Grand Canyon University, and Post Masters of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner School from Herzing University. I speak Spanish and English fluently and would love to serve all communities. I am open to seeing patients in the office or via telehealth. I am presently located in Vestavia, Alabama. She has built a solid foundation in nursing, with 10 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse (RN) and over 8 years as a Nurse Practitioner. Jessica has accumulated valuable hands-on experience that continues to contribute to her expertise in providing high-quality care. Jessica is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner in both psychiatric mental health and family healthcare. She provides comprehensive care for a broad range, from adults as young as 18 to the elderly. She is skilled in managing mental health issues across various stages of life, adapting care to the unique needs of each age group. Jessica provides inpatient care at Gadsden Regional Medical Center where she serves as a provider to the geriatric psychiatry unit. Jessica also sees adult and geriatric patients in the outpatient setting at the Gadsden office with Ally Psychiatry. Mr. Hensel has experience working with clients living with mental health concerns including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, insomnia, schizophrenia, and other trauma-related issues that are in crisis, residential living, and outpatient services throughout central and southern Alabama. Mr. Hensel has worked in several emergency departments as a registered nurse, including a psychiatric emergency department, which fueled his passion for psychiatric care. Mr. Hensel is a Navy veteran and retired Army officer. In addition to being a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Mr. Hensel is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Mr. Hensel is a Certified Emergency Nurse. Mr. Hensel is an active member of the Alabama State Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Mr. Hensel has privileges at Jackson Hospital, Mizell Hospital, and Baptist East Hospital. Victoria Smith is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2016 from Jacksonville State University and continued her education to receive a Master’s Degree in Nursing in 2021 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Victoria has many years of psychiatric experience which began when she was working as a tech in nursing school. Since then, she has worked with adult and geriatric patients as a nurse. Victoria joined Alabama Psychiatry in December 2021. She currently works on the inpatient units at Gadsden Regional Medical Center and will be soon seeing patients at the outpatient clinic in Attalla.
