Mr. Hensel has experience working with clients living with mental health concerns including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, insomnia, schizophrenia, and other trauma-related issues that are in crisis, residential living, and outpatient services throughout central and southern Alabama. Mr. Hensel has worked in several emergency departments as a registered nurse, including a psychiatric emergency department, which fueled his passion for psychiatric care. Mr. Hensel is a Navy veteran and retired Army officer. In addition to being a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Mr. Hensel is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Mr. Hensel is a Certified Emergency Nurse. Mr. Hensel is an active member of the Alabama State Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. Mr. Hensel has privileges at Jackson Hospital, Mizell Hospital, and Baptist East Hospital. Mr. Hensel provides care for the following units: Psychiatric Assessment Center, Infinite Horizons Stabilization Unit, and Carastar Crisis Center. Mr. Hensel provides outpatient coverage for South Central Alabama Mental Health Clinics and Urgent Care.

Dr. Khawaja is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with more than 20 years of clinical experience providing comprehensive psychiatric care across outpatient, inpatient, forensic, and correctional settings in the United States and the United Kingdom. She specializes in the evaluation and treatment of complex mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, and co-occurring psychiatric and medical illnesses. Dr. Khawaja is known for her thoughtful, evidence-based approach, careful risk assessment, and ability to manage high-acuity presentations with clarity and compassion. Throughout her career, Dr. Khawaja has worked in diverse clinical environments, including private practice, hospital-based services, crisis units, and correctional facilities. This breadth of experience informs a practical, grounded treatment style that prioritizes safety, collaboration, and individualized care. Dr. Khawaja is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry and holds subspecialty certification in Forensic Psychiatry. She completed her residency training in adult psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch and has additional fellowship training in forensic psychiatry through Harvard Medical School’s Program in Psychiatry and the Law.

His education includes obtaining his Bachelors in Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Master’s in Science in Nursing from Western Governors University, and Post Master’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate from the University of Alabama. He has honorably served in the United States Army as an Army Nurse. My goal is to give competent compassionate care to clients in need of mental health services.
▶ View ProfileErica Montgomery is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who graduated in August of 2021 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. Prior to obtaining her MSN, Erica earned her Associates of Science in Nursing (RN) from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in 2012 followed by her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Psychology from Troy University in 2018. Erica dedicated five years to working as a Registered Nurse (RN) in acute-care inpatient psychiatric facilities that serve individuals across the lifespan before she decided to further her education. Erica joined Alabama Psychiatry in 2021 with the intentions of providing mental health services in both the in-and out-patient settings. She is dedicated to providing evidence-based, empathetic assistance to those with disorders including but not limited to anxiety, depression, insomnia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, and schizophrenia. When Erica is not caring for patients, she can be found spending time with her husband, Ben, and their three children (Brendan, Lydia, and Sarah Grace). She also enjoys reading, horror movies, and women’s college basketball.
▶ View ProfileMolly Robertson, LICSW PIP, received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama and has been practicing for over 25 years. Molly sees children, adolescents, and adults and has experience in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and aging issues. She uses and integrative approach drawing on methodologies most suited to the individual’s needs and goals. She is also empathetic and affirming which she believes is an integral part in the therapeutic process. Therapies utilized include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Molly joined Alabama Psychiatry at our Montgomery location in July 2020.

Passionate about providing compassionate mental health care, Angelica is committed to supporting her patients’ well-being. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, exploring the arts, traveling, and continuous learning.
